Default Shell Locale

Changing the default locale (language) for a given shell

Problem

The chinese putty version (pietty?) doesn't work correctly with WinXP English.
Therefore I had to change the default locale.

Solution

bash:

export LANG=en_US
export LC_ALL=en_US
export LC_CTYPE=en_US

csh:

setenv LANG en_US
setenv LC_ALL en_US
setenv LC_CTYPE en_US

Evaluate current language settings

b96123@linux1:~/workspace/c> setenv | grep LANG
LANG=zh_TW.Big5
b96123@linux1:~/workspace/c> setenv | grep LC_ALL
LC_ALL=zh_TW.Big5
